Rajasthan is the largest state in terms of area and is located in the North-West region of India. This state is mostly desert. Rajasthan is known for its rich culture, history and heritage. The state is home to many famous forts, palaces, temples and havelis. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan. Other major cities of the state include Jodhpur, Udaipur and Bikaner. The state of Rajasthan is mainly inhabited by several communities like Rajput, Meena, Jat and Muslim etc. The main languages spoken here are Rajasthani, Hindi and English.
A total of 33 districts come in Rajasthan, and if seen from the electoral point of view, there are 25 Lok Sabha seats and 200 assembly seats along with 10 Rajya Sabha seats. Rajasthan has a unicameral legislature, consisting of 200 members, Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections are held every five years to elect members of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. Its members are elected from different constituencies of Rajasthan. The Legislative Assembly is responsible for making laws for the state, the leader of the party or coalition that has a majority in the Assembly is appointed as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. There are 200 assembly constituencies in the state. The political party or coalition that wins the maximum number of seats forms the government. The last assembly election in Rajasthan was held in 2018.
In the 2018 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections, the Indian National Congress emerged as the single largest party with 99 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party won 73 seats. The Congress party formed the government with the support of independent MLAs and other smaller parties. And again Ashok Gehlot was made the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. The voting percentage in the 2018 assembly elections was 74.21%, Ashok Gehlot won for the third time after the 2018 elections.
At present there are total 51458970 voters, out of which 26847147 are male voters and 24611823 are female voters. In the year 2023, there are a total of 51187 polling stations, which include 9964 polling stations in urban areas and 41223 polling stations in rural areas. The next assembly election in this state is expected to be held in 2023.
